Good news for all fans of the series. HBO renews ‘Euphoria’ for a second season less than a month after the launch of the first. The success of the series has been overwhelming and the cable television network -and now the streaming platform- has decided to bet on it again.
The series tells the stories of a group of controversial and conflictive teenagers . However, the main protagonist is Rue Bennet, the character played by Zendaya, perhaps the most important youth star of the moment.
During the first season we are seeing what Rue Bennet’s life is like, fresh out of a detox center. Throughout the eight chapters that the series lasts, the stories of the characters are developed intertwining with each other, as is usual in this type of series.
The real success of HBO renewing ‘Euphoria’ is that only the first three chapters of the eight that the first season has in total have been broadcast.

‘Euphoria’, a controversial series
Much of the success of ‘Euphoria’ lies in the fact that it has managed to find the key by going for the younger audience, a target that HBO cared less about than other companies such as Netflix, which has movies and series focused on especially the young. ‘Stranger Things’ would be a good example.
Even Movistar +, the Spanish company that struggles to compete with the big ones, developed an adaptation of ‘Skam’, the famous Norwegian series about teenagers.
However, as usual on HBO, when they have gone for it all they have kept it for themselves. ‘Euphoria’ has played with the same pieces as ‘Skam’ : a group of teenagers who play (at least) with drugs and where sex is very present, but also ‘Skins’ , the British series that served as a reference to all those that came after and that was the first to deal openly with the “real life” of adolescents in the 21st century.
The similarities between ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Skam’ don’t end there. The series that HBO has just renewed is a remake of an Israeli series of the same name that premiered in 2012 and was a great success in the country.
Zendaya is one of the most recognizable faces of ‘Euphoria’ | HBO

Zendaya, key for HBO to renew ‘Euphoria’
The success of the American actress who left the Disney factory (yet another) has been key when it comes to promoting ‘Euphoria’ and consolidating it as one of the series of the year. According to HBO, more than five and a half million viewers have already seen it .
However, it’s not just Zendaya’s thing. The great promise of her acting is very well accompanied by a cast of young actors who will make a career from there. Among them stands out Hunter Schafer, who plays Jules Vaughn, a girl who has just moved to the city and who connects with Rue Bennet in a special way, giving rise to one of the most natural and interesting relationships on television today.
Rounding out the cast are Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Algee Smith and Sydney Sweeney. In the creation and production of ‘Euphoria’, the figure of Sam Levinson stands out as showrunner and that, obviously, he will repeat in this second season of ‘Euphoria’ that HBO has just confirmed.
