We could say, as many critics and some specialized media already think, that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has become one of the revolutionary films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU for experts), as well as the entertainment industry itself.
And it has gone so far that it has surpassed ‘Avatar’, thus becoming the highest grossing film in the history of cinema, reaching nearly 3,000 million dollars in collection, when James Cameron’s film got 2,788 million dollars , and ‘Titanic’ reached 2,188 million dollars a few years ago.

One of the stellar moments of the film, and that the fans liked so much, is the one known as the great final battle.. And it is that although it is true that throughout the entire film there is a huge amount of visual/digital effects and effects achieved from the use -sometimes excessive- of the traditional green screen (or chroma), there is no He doubts that the CGI effects achieved as the film progresses have surprised a lot.

The spectacular final battle of ‘Avengers: Endgame’
Especially when we can see what is known as ‘making-of’ of the final battle against Thanos, through a video that has been uploaded by WETA, the special effects company created by Peter Jackson , and responsible for the visual effects that we can find in the trilogy of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, ‘King Kong’ or ‘The Hobbit’, among others.
We must remember at this time thatboth Thanos and Hulk are two characters that have been created entirely by computer. And although, it is true, they depend on the so-called ‘motion capture’ of their official actors (Josh Brolin and Mark Ruffalo, respectively), the reality is that seeing how they manage to make the artificial/digital pass for real to the point of not thinking that they have been created by computer, it is something that is as incredible as it is wonderful.
Although today everything is possible in the world of cinema, as we are personally verifying with the latest releases that have reached the big theaters (and particularly after the premiere of ‘Avengers: Endgame’), it never ceases to amaze what is achieve with this type of visual effects.

What are CGI effects and why have they revolutionized the field of special effects in cinema?

It was in 1990 when a CGI (computer generated image) technology was used for the first time, which, , has become an essential part of science fiction and fantasy cinema, and is technically known as Motion Capturing. He was Arnold Schwarzenegger in his already legendary movie ‘Total Challenge’, and with his help creatives can capture -and record- the movements of real actors to later transfer them to a computer-generated model.

To achieve this, the actors must wear a suit with a wide variety of reference points, which reflect infrared light, which is emitted and received by a special system of cameras. Thus, the actors move in a grid of coordinates that is then transferred to the computer. And specialized software transfers the movements to the digital model.

In the year 1993 it was possible to demonstrate that by means of CGI it was perfectly possible to create living beings in a complete way . It was with the arrival in theaters of ‘Jurassic Park’, in which viewers were able to see anatomically perfect dinosaurs. Although it is true that only 6 and a half minutes corresponded to dinosaurs created by CGI.
And a few years later, in 1995, we could see the first film created entirely by computer, in a tape whose duration reached 81 minutes, and for its creation, 114,000 individual images were composed: ‘Toy Story’. 117 supercomputers were needed, which were capable of creating 3 minutes of film per week.
The truth is that the arrival of CGI allowed a great advance in the film industry, since before the visual effects required a great deal of manual work.
