“Madness and greatness are two sides of the same coin. Every time a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin and the world holds its breath.” This is how Jaehaerys II, Daenerys’s grandfather, described what happens when a Targaryen comes into the world. Until now, the coin was up in the air, but Game of Thrones season 8 episode 5 has shown us the result.
This is our analysis with SPOILERS of 8×05: The Bells. The queen of ashes
The main idea of the chapter is that Daenerys is no longer who she was, and the first to suffer the consequences is Varys, who secretly conspired to place Jon on the throne. We knew that Varys would play a fundamental role in this new scenario, and evenit is possible that his actions continue to bring consequences after his death.
Moments before his execution, we see how the eunuch burns a letter with the following content: “She is not the only Targaryen left. Rhaegar and Lyanna… her son still lives, hidden by Eddard Stark… he is the true heir to the Iron Throne.” She may not be the only missive he has sent.
Daenerys knows that she will never be as loved in Westeros as she is by Jon, and that if she wants to reach the Iron Throne she must choose a different path. In fact, the only weapon she has left of hers is fear , and a dragon makes things a lot easier for her. “I’m not going to stop the wheel, I’m going to break the wheel”, she warned some time ago.
That could explain, in part, why the Dragon Queen decides to reduce King’s Landing to ashes, fulfilling her father’s last wish and becoming the villain of the last chapter of the series. In a way, it’s a nice way to close the loop – she’s the Mad Queen now – and get back to square one.

The problem is that this descent into madness lasts two chapters, insufficient for the viewer to see a credible evolution in it. Big mistake of the Benioff and Weiss
Surely, the mistake is in the planning. Like when you write by hand, you have to end the sentence on the same line, and you run out of paper, the producers have run out of time to develop each story arc as it deserves.
That does not prevent the chapter from being a visual spectacle . Some sequences, like the one with Arya trying to save the civilians, look like something out of a war action movie and keep us clinging to the sofa even in the wee hours of the morning. Nothing to object. The queen on the balcony
We all expected a poetic death for Cersei, the most fearsome villain this series has ever known, and some made reference to the famous Valonqar prophecythat appears in the literary saga. Here we must make a small subsection. Although Maggy the Frog prophesies the deaths of Joffrey, Tommen, and Myrcella, she does not at any point refer to Cersei’s death.
In this fifth chapter, her character is limited to observing from the balcony, a background that she only leaves to meet Jaime again. Both take refuge in the crypts of Landing and end up buried by the rubble. Although the work of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Lena Headey is always outstanding, the scene is not emotionally charged enough . It just doesn’t work.

Very different is the encounter between El Perro and his brother. Sandor closes the circlethrowing Gregor into the flames, though that means his own death. Most will agree that The Hound has been one of the roundest characters in Game of Thrones.
Meanwhile, Arya wanders the streets of the capital aimlessly trying to save her life and the lives of many others. In the end, we can’t help but wonder what the true purpose of his trip to King’s Landing was, and that is that he abandons his intentions to kill Cersei as soon as The Hound warns him of his obsession, but the final scene invites us to think that the character will have a crucial role in the closing of the series. In conclusion, we have a new queen on the throne, although the throne is nothing more than ashes.
we have a few leftQuestions for the final chapter . Jon will have to decide between love or common sense, Tyrion will have to choose a side and Arya could add Danerys to her famous list (remember that the “green eyes” prophecy still stands), but everyone will have to decide quickly. There are only 80 minutes left to close all the plots and it seems difficult for the ending to be satisfactory for everyone.

Las Campanas continues to leave us with that feeling of suffocation, and it is that it seeks to offer us many sensations in a very short time . But if we stop judging the decisions of the characters -something that can be very subjective- and we take into account that there is no material time to take care of the narrative as many of us would like, the series is still above average.
