15 Disney live-action films
are currently in development . This is due to the great success of the recent remakes of their animated classics.
We must know that ‘Beauty and the Beast’ from 2017 raised more than 1.2 billion dollars and ‘The Jungle Book’ from 2016 reached the amount of 966 million worldwide. Recently we have been able to enjoy ‘Aladin’, which has had a profit of almost 1 billion dollars.
Thus, it is to be assumed that after the good reception that this type of project has received from the audience, Disney is producing more live-action of its most famous classics.

The next 15 live-action Disney
This year they will finish 4 of the total number of remakes that the company has in production. However, there are many more that will be extended for the next 2020. Here is a list of the live-action films that Disney is currently producing :

1. ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’
Although it is not exactly a remake, The movie ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ is a sequel to the successful ‘Maleficent’, which refocuses on the story of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ but from the point of view of the evil fairy. Angelina Jolie will once again be in charge of interpreting the main character. The film is scheduled to be released on October 18.

2. ‘Lady and the Tramp’
Sometimes forgotten by other more successful titles, this movie is one of Disney’s most lovable. Directed by Charlie Bean, it will be a hybrid remake of live-action and CGI (which uses real dogs) . The film will be released directly on the Disney + streaming platform, although an official date is not yet available.

3. ‘Mulan’
The live-action project of Mulan has been delayed several times. Its initial date was in 2018 and now it is scheduled for 2020. Although initially it was not going to be a musical film, by request of the fans the film is full of music and choreography . The film will be released on June 19, 2020.

4. ‘Cruella de Vil’
The prequel to ‘101 Dalmatians’ will be told from the point of view of the villain Cruela de Vil. Emma Stone will be in charge of starring in the film , which will be set in 1979 and linked to the punk rock era of London. The release date is scheduled for December 23, 2020.

5. ‘The Little Mermaid’
The live-action of ‘The Little Mermaid’ is currently in production, after being stopped for a while. The director will be Rob Marshall (‘Mary Poppins Returns’) and will feature music by Alan Menken and Lin Manuel Miranda. Halle Bailey will play Ariel and Melissa McCarthy will play Ursula. In addition, there is also talk that Javier Bardem could be King Triton. Its premiere is scheduled for next 2021.

6. ‘Lilo and Stitch’
Another of Disney’s funniest movies, ‘Lilo and Stitch’ will also be adapted in live-action. Little is known about the project, other than that it will be written by Mike Van Waes and will feature a mix of live-action and CGI .

7. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Another of Disney’s great successes at the time of the 90’s was ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’. The film is executive produced by Josh Gad, who will also play Quasimodo and sing, since the remake will be a musical .

8. ‘Merlin the Charmer’
Another of the live-action films that will premiere directly on the new streaming serviceof the company will be ‘Merlin the Charmer’. In addition to new TV shows from Lucasfilm and Marvel, Disney plans to release four to five original movies on the platform each year, and it looks like live-action remakes will be some of them.

14. ‘Red Rose’
‘Red Rose’ will focus on Snow White’s sister. The film picks up right after Snow White bites into the poisoned apple, leaving Rose Red to embark on a quest with the Seven Dwarfs to find a cure.

15. ‘Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs’
In addition to ‘Red Rose,’ Disney is also working on a new version of ‘Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs,’ the animated film that transformed the studio decades ago. Erin Cressida Wilson is writing the script along with ‘La La Land’ duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who are writing new songs for the movie .
