Are men more forgiving of infidelity than women? Here’s the answer!

To forgive an infidelity all concerned will react differently, each person is a world apart, yet we can find some more or less consistent patterns that make a difference between men and women.

According to a study by the University of Texas, men easily forgive the infidelity of his wife if the fact was a person of the same sex, with  another woman. The research showed that men are twice as willingness to forgive a homosexual infidelity than women.

The authors of the research that appeared in the journal “Personality and Individual Differences“, say the study offers “a new vision of psychological adaptations behind the desire of men for a variety of partners, and the desire woman in a committed couple in a faithful relationship. ”

The evolutionary psychologist James C. Confer is the author of the study, explains that “jealousy in men and women are triggered by different types of signals: those who threaten parenthood in men, and those who threaten the neglect of women.”

For the study, were asked to 700 college students to imagine being in a serious relationship for three months. They had to imagine that their partners were unfaithful in three ways: with a man and a woman, with one or more persons, and if it happened only once or a few times.

The specialists concluded that men were more willing to continue with the bride if she had had a homosexual relationship, independent of the number of times you have been unfaithful.

Women, however, forgive a boyfriend if he had sex with a woman, but not if it had been a man.

For researchers, men “have more difficulty with the type of infidelity that could threaten his paternity, and also can see the couple’s homosexual relationship as an opportunity to mate with more than one woman at the same time.”
